Local girl wrestlers qualify for nationals

CLAYTON — Area girls Emma Hanrahan (Tipp City), Lacie Knick (Northmont), and Lily Zimmerlin (Brookville) qualified to compete with the USA Wrestling-Ohio National Team at the 2023 US Marine Corp Junior and 16U Nationals.

The Team consists of the top freestyle wrestlers in the state. Selection to the team was based on the results of the recent USA Wrestling State Championships and past wrestling achievements.

The three qualifiers have been attending open mats together at Northmont High School and working with coaches Scott Pergram and Jaysen Knick.

The qualifiers attended an intensive wrestling technique camp in early July. The Ohio team has done well in national competitions. With Ohio boasting 33 All-Americans. This year’s team should be very strong.

The National Wrestling Championship will be held this year at the University of North Dakota in Fargo, from July 14 to July 22.

The purpose of the USA Wrestling event is to provide opportunities for wrestlers of all styles to compete against the best competition, at the regional, national, and international levels.
