News from Preble County Council on Aging

I wonder, where I wonder, and sometimes still don’t know what to do….

Have you had this experience before, where you are not sure about something but then think you have figured it out and then you realize you still don’t know what to do? I’m pretty sure everyone has had that happen at least once and if you haven’t, that’s wonderful! However, for those of us that do and feel it seems to come more frequently than it used to, guess who can help? The Preble County Council on Aging is here for you, specifically those of you that are 60 and older.

Why not give us a call and see how we can help you, answer your questions, help with your concerns, or provide a space where you can come and have fun, get a good meal, and socialize? We offer a variety of services such as transportation, meals, information & referral, activities, volunteer opportunities, homemaking, trips, companionship, and so much more. Ohio, in general, has over 400 senior centers and in 2019 we received the award the for the #1 Senior Center in Ohio! We are still #1 because no one has been awarded it since! Preble County is a great place and we offer so much for our seniors. We want seniors to stay in their homes as long as it is safe and that is how our services can help.

This year we have been celebrating our 50th Anniversary. For July, our theme is “News of 1973,” and we are focusing on different news stories that came out in 1973, and as some of you know and remember, there were some highly straining and concerning things happening during 1973. Want to know more? Come on out and find out with us. Along with our focus, we also are offering our normal activities throughout the month and those can be viewed on our website, our Facebook page or on Yodel.

In today’s news, PCCOA has a lot going on. First, our expansion is happening and you can see all the activity that is taking place by either stopping by or checking out our Facebook page. We try to post at least weekly pictures to keep you all updated and to just show what all has been done. They are doing a fantastic job keeping everything moving. Don’t forget that we are looking for donations to help cover these costs and if you want to know more information on how to be a part of this Senior Center expansion, just give us a call, email, or stop on in, we would love to talk to you about it. No donation is too small, every little bit helps.

On another note, we are participating in the Pork Festival “Paint a Pig” and we are looking for suggestions on how to design and paint our pig. We know we want it centered on our 50th Anniversary but also the “Dream Pig” theme. We are also looking to name our new pig, so Chris P. Bacon (our current concrete pig) knows what to call his friend. The deadline for this is July 22.

Don’t forget we have a lot of great trips happening and want to make happen, we just need a few more sign ups on a few of our trips. These trips are Wilbur Wright Museum, Barn N Bunk, Tecumseh, Indianapolis Zoo, Keeneland, The Carlisle Inn & Star Theatre, Christmas at the Biltmore, and Murder Mystery Show on the B & B Riverboat. Each trip is a fun time and we need a certain number of people for the trip to happen. Give us a call or check out our Facebook page, website, or Yodel for dates and prices. Members get a discounted price.

Don’t forget that you can become a member for just $10 a year and you will stay up to date with all of our events and happenings. We are looking forward to seeing you visit us soon!
