BROOKVILLE — The Charter for the Brookville Building and Savings Association, Brookville’s oldest business, was issued on February 28, 1903 and the business was located at 20 Walnut Street at John Mills Jewelry Store.

The first incorporators were David C. Williamson, John Mills Daniel C. Albert, David S. Baker, George Shafer, Truman B. Mills, Ira Dunkel and Allen C. McDonald.

On September 26, 1929, the association moved into their new location at 208 Market Street. The building shown in the photo had formerly been occupied by the First National Bank which had consolidated with the Citizens State Savings Bank and was relocated to 132 Market Street.

The directors of the Brookville Building and Savings Association felt that the building at 208 Market Street was the ideal location for their growing business. This building was equipped with a much better vault and other advantages so they would be able to serve their customers in a more up-to-date manner.

They took advantage of their normal Wednesday noon closing to move their goods and some of the furniture to the new location.

In 1968, the Association moved into their present location at 510 Arlington Road. The new building was a modern facility with room for future growth. In 1977, they opened a branch office in Lewisburg and it continues in operation today. The business remains the only locally owned financial institution in Brookville.
