Fireworks displays to highlight holiday

PREBLE COUNTY — There will be several places to view fireworks this weekend and early next week in celebration of the Independence Day holiday.

The Lakengren community will hold its Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 1, from 5-10:30 p.m. at the Lakengren Marina. Fireworks begin at sundown.

The annual Preble County Historical Society fireworks are set for Sunday, July 2. PCHS is located at 7963 Swartsel Road, Eaton. Gates will open at 3 p.m. Parking will be $10 and is cash only.

Entertainment for the evening begins at 3 p.m. with the Eaton Community Band followed at 4 p.m. by the Eaton Community Choir. These performances will be located at the PCHS Outdoor Event Center near the Lewisburg Log House. At 5 p.m. American Idol star and Nashville recording artist Alexis Gomez returns to The PCHS Amphitheatre stage with her band, followed by Flat Out, who will play through the fireworks show.

There will be food vendors and a beer tent. Outside coolers will not be permitted.

The West Alexandria Celebration Committee will host its 11th annual July 4 Party in the Park and Car Show at Peace Park on Tuesday, July 4, from 1-7 p.m. The fireworks display will take place at approximately 10 p.m. at the Twin Valley South School grounds.

The car show will take place at Peace Park from 1-7 p.m. At 7 p.m. the car, truck and bike show winners will be announced.

At 9 p.m. a Lighted Parade will line-up at Salem Lutheran Church. The Lighted Parade will kick off at 9:30 p.m.

No entrance before 6 p.m., and only cars may be in parking spots for safety reasons. (No blankets, chairs, or standing in a parking spot.) Bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit in the football practice field. This is a free event. Donations will be accepted. No pets permitted. Participants attend at their own risk.

On Tuesday, July 4, from 5-10 p.m. the public is invited to Hueston Woods State Park Lodge and Conference Center for Thunder Tuesday. There will be a cook-out and a DJ, with fireworks at dusk. Visitors should bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets. No coolers, drones, or pets will be permitted.
