Smith’s 4 RBI leads Trail to win over Shawnee

Jamison Watts pitched five innings to help the Blazers to a 12-7 win at Preble Shawnee.

CAMDEN — National Trail overcame and early three-run deficit to defeat host Preble Shawnee 12-7 last week.

The Blazers trailed 3-0 after one but rallied for two runs in the third and four more in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.

Trail added three runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a 9-3 lead.

Shawnee responded with its first run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 9-4 game. The Blazers pushed their lead to 12-4 with three runs in the top of the seventh.

The Arrows rounded out the scoring with three in their half of the seventh.

Jamison Watts pitched five innings and struck out eight for Trail.

Offensively, Cayden Clark drove in two run and scored once. Mason Lead had hit and two RBI, while Cooper Smith had three hits, including two doubles, drove in three runs and scored four times.

For Shawnee, Sayge Stevenson went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI.

Trail, now 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference, was scheduled to play at Newton on Monday, April 24 and will host Ansonia on Tuesday.

Shawnee, now 6-5 and 4-3, was scheduled to host Newton on Tuesday. They are set to host Mississinawa Valley on Thursday and play at Wayne on Saturday.
