EATON — As the softball season winds down to its final two weeks, Eaton kept its league championship aspirations alive with a pair of wins last week.

The Eagles moved to 5-2 in the Southwestern Buckeye League West Division after wins over Valley View and Bellbrook.

Eaton also moved above the .500 mark overall as its record now stands at 7-6.

With the wins, Eaton sets up key league games this week with division leading and state-ranked Carlisle. The defending SWBL West champion Indians are currently 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Eaton will host Carlisle on Wednesday and travel to the Indians on Friday and will most likely need to win both games to stay in title contention.

The Eagles were scheduled to open the week with a trip to Waynesville on Monday, April 24 for an SWBL cross-over game.

Against Valley View, on Tuesday, April 18, Eaton built a 7-1 lead after four innings only to have to add three runs late to pull away for the win.

After each team scored a run in the first, Eaton added four in the second and singles runs in the third and fourth.

The Spartans tallied four in the bottom of the fifth to close withing 7-5, but Eaton added three in the sixth to earn the win.

Olivia Baumann went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs.

Kendall Miller added two hits and scored three runs and Hannah Redick was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Julie Schrimper collected three hits and drove in a run.

On Thursday, Eaton used a four-run fourth to beat visiting Bellbrook 5-2.

Eaton scored three of the runs after two were out.

Tai Mize doubled to start the rally. After moving to third on a wild pitch she eventually scored on a sac fly by Baumann to tie the game.

Redick followed with a single and scored on a double by Schrimper to make it a 2-1 game. Addison Satterfield was inserted as courtesy runner for Schrimper and promptly scored on a hit by Miller. Gracie Copper followed with a double off the fence in left center to make it 4-1.

Eaton added a run in the sixth for a 5-1 lead and Bellbrook scored in the seventh to make it 5-2.
