Lady Devils lose four straight games

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — After amassing 41 runs in three victories to open the 2023 season, the Brookville girls fastpitch softball team managed to score just three runs in four straight losses over spring break in Myrtle Beach, SC.

All three of Brookville’s runs came during an 11-3 loss to Point Pleasant, W.Va. on April 3. Grace Burton went 2-for-4 with a triple, one run and two RBIs. Kara Gardner went 2-for-4 with a run and Melina Davidson went 2-for-4.

Maya Haydon, a freshman, got tagged for 18 hits and four earned runs in seven innings on the mound. The Lady Devils committed seven errors in the loss.

On April 4 the Lady Devils suffered a 17-0 loss in three innings to Lafayette (Lexington, Ky.) Generals. Kenzie Roesser generated Brookville’s only hit of the game.

Grace Burton pitched all three innings and got tagged for 11 hits and 12 earned runs with four walks and two strikeouts. Brookville committed five errors.

Last Wednesday the Lady Devils fell 9-0 to the Friendship (New York) Golden Eagles. Kara Gardener went 2-for-3, Jordyn Oliver 1-for-3 and Melina Davidson 1-for-3.

Maya Haydon pitched all seven innings surrendering five hits, seven walks, one earned run with 10 strikeouts.

The spring break trip ended with an 8-0 loss Thursday to Trinity (Whitesville, Ky.) High School. Grace Burton went 2-for-4 with Madisyn Cantrell, Melina Davidson, Kara Gardner, Maya Haydon, Isabelle Holp, and Jordyn Oliver getting one hit each.

Burton, Gardner, and Haydon all saw action pitching.
