New Paris considers new parking signage

NEW PARIS — New Paris Village Council tabled a decision to remove all business parking signs within the village and replacing them with more specific signage during its Monday, March 6, meeting.

According to Village Service Director Jimmy Ragsdale, certain business owners have recently issued complaints of vehicles being parked in spaces designated as business parking without patronizing the pertinent business.

“A business parking sign is not held up in court because all road parking has to be open to anyone in the public,” Ragsdale said. “What we are suggesting is getting rid of all the business parking signs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and putting up a two-hour limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. That will solve all issues.”

According to Ragsdale, the purpose of the new signage would be to prevent residents from taking away access to businesses. Police Chief Joel Protzman added, he and his deputies always try to find the owners of said vehicles before issuing tickets.
