BROOKVILLE — City manager Sonja Keaton reminded both council and the park board of the annual community park clean-up day scheduled for Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. until noon.

The annual event is open to any resident who wishes to help with the clean up of the city’s parks.

“The parks are a mess this year,” Keaton said.

Keaton indicated Ward Park was so bad she had the city’s service department last month clean up some of the fallen tree branches.

“You couldn’t hardly even take a step in the park because it was full of tree branches just from the wind and the ice we had back in December, so I sent them out to get a head start on that,” Keaton said.

Keaton informed both council and the park board she reserved the Montgomery County Community Pride Clean-up supply trailer to help with the clean up of the city parks.

“The trailer is stocked with tools and materials to help our residents remove debris and pick up litter,” Keaton said.

The list of tools in the trailer include gas-powered lawn mowers, gas-powered line trimmers, garden and drain spades, gas-powered leaf blowers, gas can, bow saws, rakes (bow, landscape, leaf), shovels (square and round), cloth gloves, latex gloves, goggles, earplugs, safety glasses, brooms, aluminum dust pans, trash cans with lids, garbage bags, standard and pole pruners, pitch forks, hedge shears, electric hedge trimmer and loppers.

“There are wheelbarrows, something we’ve never had before,” Keaton added.

Keaton said the Montgomery County Environmental Services staff members will deliver the trailer on Friday, March 25.

Keaton said the county will retrieve the trailer on Monday, March 27.

Keaton noted the park board will provide hot dogs and refreshments in Golden Gate’s shelter #3 at the conclusion of the clean-up event.

In case the clean up is canceled due to inclement weather, the event will take place on Saturday, April 1, from 10 a.m. until noon.
