SWCD offering Cover Crop Workshop

CAMDEN — Preble Soil and Water Conservation District will be holding its Cover Crop Workshop on Tuesday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Vonderhaar Farms, 4636 Ohio 725, Camden.

Participants will learn about the many benefits of cover cropping, including decreased soil erosion, increased yields, and weed control. Featured guest speaker Matt Burkholder of Burkholder Family Farms is a fourth-generation farmer in Allen County and advocate for regenerative agriculture. He will be joined by local guest panelists Bryan Haber and Phil Jordan who will share their experiences with cover crops in Preble County.

Amy Weber of Miami University will discuss her research and explain how cover crops can improve the health of Preble County’s watersheds. Purdue University Extension will also provide a cover crop aerial seeding drone demonstration. The workshop will conclude with a drawing for $500 and $300 gift certificates for cover crop seed provided courtesy of The Nature Conservancy and Sustain Seed + Soil.

This event is free for those wishing to attend. It will begin with a free dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by programming lasting through to 7:30 p.m.
