National Trail recognizes students

NEW PARIS — The National Trail Board of Education recognized the students of the month for December and January, and other outstanding student achievements, during its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The elementary students of the month for December 2022 and January 2023 were Carter Holt, Gracie Vonderhaar, Tinsley Brown, Adalyn McWhinney, Hunter Stringfield, Madison Baldwin, Braxton Meyers, Harper Richardson, Olivia O’Diam, Gavin Arthur, Clessie Nohrer and Daxton Gutherie.

The middle school students of the month for January were Gavyn Guthrie, Paige Carroll, Olivia Stone, Adaline Jones, Alton Sparks, Gage Bush, Audrey Baldwin, Malachi Rehmert, Grady Ott, Claire Osswald, Westin Marker and Kenzie Harper.

The high school students of the month for December 2022 and January 2023 were Brisa Landeros, Madelyn Ditmer, Elizabeth Kieffer, Breanna Melling, Chase Ruebush, Jamison Watts, Hailee Michael and Elizabeth Welz.

National Trail’s FFA Novice Parliamentary Pro Team was also recognized for their achievements. Members included Morgan House, Tayten Reynolds, Lexi Hake, Grace Osswald, Jacob Dickson, Aiden Rader, Ava Spalding and Colton Daum.

The middle school wrestling WOAC Champions, Jarrod Fox, Tommy Toschlog, Colt Foster, Landon Koontz, Grady Ott, Luke Bowers, Conner Wyatt, Westin Marker, Nate Hale, Takoda Turner were recognized, as were middle school cheer WOAC Champions Mackenzie Harper, Breanna Leal, Kira Rutan, Willow Welz and Katie Wyatt.

Preble County Geography Bee winners Micah Berry, Kyle Laird, James Morgan, Evan Gierzak, Levi Lipps, Corbin Robefer, Adam Lynch, Tyson Howard were also recognized, as were District 13 S&E Superior Ratings recipients Grace Oswald, Garland Weaver and Dietrich Hoblit.

All-WOAC Winter students included Ashlynne Osborne, Natalie Osswald, Kellen Laird, Henry Toschlog and James Baker.

Preble County Rotary 4-Way speech winner Garland Weaver was also recognized.

National Trail Athletic Director, Troy Ferguson, expressed his pride in all the athletic students, especially the wrestling team and “the direction it is headed.”

In other business:

• The board accepted a donation in the amount of $1,000 from Loren and Julie Brubaker, to be used by the Success Liaison for various expenses.

• The board approved agreements with Edison State and Sinclair for the College Credit Plus (CCP) programs.

• The board approved the retirement of Pat Hamilton, the middle school intervention specialist.

• The board also accepted the resignation of Nikki Rutan, high school special education one-on-one aide.

• The board went into executive session to discuss school security with Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson and Chief Deputy Mike Spitler.
