BROOKVILLE — A combination Cassano’s Pizza King and London Bobby Fish & Chips restaurant officially opened August 27, 1973 in the Brookside Plaza in Brookville.

It featured a full line of Pizza King menu items as well as the full line of London Bobby products. It had a comfortable seating capacity of 36. Both Cassano’s Pizza and London Bobby offered catering and carry-out as well as the eat-in customers.

Vic Cassano, chairman of the board of Cassano Enterprises was present at the ribbon cutting. Also helping cut the ribbon was Brookville’s Mayor, Albert VanInwegen along with other village officials.

Cassano’s Pizza King was one of the first in the nation to franchise its stores in 1955. The company grew to 125 stores by the 1970s and ranked in the top four pizza chains in the country.

It all began in a 20’ x 15’ room adjoining a small grocery store on Schantz Avenue in Kettering.

Vic Cassano, Sr., along with his mother-in-law Mom Donisi began selling their Cassano family pizza treat in the back of a friend’s party store. Cassano’s was Dayton’s first taste of pizza. On opening day they sold 400 pizzas.
