LHS celebrates ‘Roaring 20s’ during 3rd Annual Snowball

LEWISBURG — The Lewisburg Historical Society hosted its 3rd Annual Snow Ball dance on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Gatherings on the Green venue in Lewisburg. This year’s theme was the Roaring Twenties.

Guests danced in 1920s style to the Razzamatazz & Jazz Band generously funded by the Lewisburg Service Center and Lewisburg’s future hotel – The Front Porch Inn. Vahid Schwart and Meghan Yost performed a 1920s Charleston dance demo and provided lessons to all attending. Everyone was twisting their feet, kicking their legs and swinging their arms in unison. Women wore 1920s flapper and Gatsby attire including beaded, sequined and fringed dresses, headbands with feathers and long pearls…and we can’t forget the bright red lipstick. Men were seen wearing Gatsby and gangster suits, vests and derby hats. Children enjoyed the event and danced the night away.

Gatherings on the Green was a perfect venue for the event, featuring a large chandelier as an elegant focal point. Tables were adorned with black tablecloths, rose gold sequined table runners, tea lights, feathers and pearls. Yankee Clover Mercantile donated beautiful floral centerpieces which were given away as door prizes.

The Lewisburg Historical Society purchased gift cards from local Lewisburg stores to give away as door prizes. The Preble County Historical Society, Yankee Clover Mercantile, and Haven – Home, Garden, Body generously contributed items for door prizes as well.

A large variety of 1920s favorites were on the menu including Italian meatballs, tea sandwiches, cheese platter, cracker platter, olives, pickles and celery platter, warm soft pretzels, pineapple upside down cake, a variety of cookies, red velvet cupcakes, hot chocolate, coffee and punch. And we can’t forget Baby Ruth bars – the number one favorite candy bar of the 1920s.

Guests had their photographs taken on an antique couch in front of an antique mantel by Paisley Perfect Photography.

We could never hold such an amazing event without the generosity of our local businesses, all of the volunteers and food donations. We received wonderful complements about the Roaring 20s Snow Ball, the Gatherings on the Green venue, the band Razzamatazz & Jazz, and the dance team, Vahid Schwart and Megan Yost. It was a great evening to get out and dance, listen to the band, socialize and enjoy the 1920s-themed food!

1920s history and flapper slang was shared with guests. Guests were heard saying the event was the “bee’s knees” and the “cat’s pajamas.” Their “dogs” were sore by the end of the evening. The venue was “ritzy” and the food was just “ducky.” The “whangdoodle” was the perfect jazz band for the event. Everyone had “a roaring good time.”
