School records fall at sectional swimming

WASHINGTON TWP. — Eaton and National Trail’s swim teams participated their respective sectionals on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, at the Washington Township Rec Center.

Eaton and Trail’s girls swam Saturday.

Eaton placed second and National Trail was eighth in the 12 team field.

“Eaton girls had a great meet,” coach Kajsa Ruebush said.

The 200 medley relay with Rebekah Honaker, Cari Metz, Elise Hewitt, and Maddie Haynes placed 3rd and advanced to districts.

The 200 free relay with Honaker, Elise Hewitt, Zoee Willard, and Haynes placed 3rd and advanced to districts while breaking the school record.

The 400 free relay with Kaili Hewitt, Alina Fore, Metz, and Willard placed 2nd automatically advancing them to districts.

Haynes placed 4th in the 50 free, breaking a school record, and 2nd in the 100 free advancing to districts in both.

Kaili Hewitt advanced to districts in both the 200 IM and the 100 Breast.

Honaker placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke and advanced to districts.

Elise Hewitt placed 6th in the 200 IM and advanced to Districts.

Metz advanced to districts in the 100 breaststroke.

Willard will be going to districts as first alternate in the 50 free.

Trail’s 200 medley relay with Shelby Slade, Abbi Whitesell, Emma Slade, and Kaydin Casteel placed 7th and the 200 free relay with the same girls placed 6th.

Emma Slade brought in 18 points for the team with her swim in the 200 free and the 100 back. Abbi Whitesell helped round out the points by bringing in 13 with her swims in the 100 free and the 100 breast.

On Monday, Feb. 10, Whitesell competed at districts in diving for National Trail. She completed all 11 dives and finished 5th missing state by one place.

“She had a wonderful season and I look froward to seeing what she can do next year,”Ruebush said.

On Friday, Eaton boys finished sixth overall out of 12 teams. Nick Kaufman dropped 4.34 seconds in the 100 freestyle and 3.63 seconds in the 100 breast, according to coach Kajsa Ruebush.

Sam Lawson placed 7th in the 500 Free. The boys 200 medley relay of Kaufman, Sam Lawson, Nate Crammer, and Justin Liddy finished fifth as did the 200 Free relay with the same swimmers.

Crammer qualified for Districts in the 200 Free and the 100 fly.

The district meet was held this past weekend at Miami University.
