WEST ALEXANDRIA —Twin Valley South’ golf team won two of three matches last week and also learned they will be without the services of its All-Ohio player for the remainder of the season.
South opened the week with a 192-272 win over Mississinawa Valley on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Eaton Country Club.
“The course at Eaton Country Club was extremely wet today, and the temperatures dropped 30 degrees from when we played just last week. So it was a little difficult getting used to the changes of those conditions. Still, to have 3 players shoot in the 40’s was a good day for us,” South coach Darcy Robinson said.
Willie Bowman paced South with a 44. He was followed by Chance Parks, who shot 47, and Connor Bradley with a 48. Stive Bitner had a 53 and Jacob Clark shot a 70.
On Wednesday, South shot 227 to knock of Bradford (250).
“We managed to get another victory today, even though our scores were not very good. We had to shut Chance Parks down again, due to his back/shoulder blade issues. So that gave us just four scores to work with, but thankfully, they ended up being enough,” Robinson said.
Bowman was medalist with a 51. He was followed by Bitner (54), Bradley (55) and Clark (67).
Robinson said the Panthers also learned All-Ohio golfer Nate Obsorn will not play this year.
“We got the news we were hoping not to hear this week, in that Nathan Osborn will not play golf at all during his senior year season. MRI results showed something more significant going on in his wrist other than just tendinitis. It has been such a frustration for him this season, but also for the whole team, as we were expecting to vie for the CCC championship and advance to the District Tournament as a team again this year. Of course, we were also looking for Nate to make it back to Columbus again,” Robinson said. “At this point, we’re just hoping that Nate will have a full recovery from this situation, and that he’ll be able to move on to a successful college career in golf. This has been a good reminder to us all, that nothing is guaranteed in sports or life, and that it’s important to relish what we have in the moment. Nathan had an unbelievable high school career, and nothing can take that away from him.”
South closed out the week with a loss to Tri-County North, 177-199, on Thursday, Sept. 13.
“Their guys played really well, especially their top four. Our top three guys (Willie, Chance and Connor) stayed right with them, but we just weren’t able to get that fourth score in below 50,” Robinson said. “As I’ve said all season, if four guys score in the 40’s, you’re going to win the majority of your matches. In the past, when we’d have Nathan Osborn shooting in the 30’s, we could afford to have a score come in in the 50’s. With him out this year, we’re not able to enjoy that luxury. Having said that, I’m still real proud of our guys and their continued improvement. Connor Bradley has been showing a lot more consistency, and has been making a big difference in our score totals.”
Bowman shot a 44 to lead South. Parks shot 47 and Bradley shot 48. Bitner and Clark shot 60 and 64 respectively.
For North, Dylan Curtin shot 43. Alex Wayman and Spencer Brehm each shot 44 and Ethan Kelley carded at 46.
South was scheduled to play Ansonia on Monday, Sept. 17.
The CCC Tournament will be on Thursday, Sept. 20 and sectional tournament will be the follow Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Beechwood.
