EATON – Despite the hot temperatures during the 8-day Preble County Fair, the event was deemed a success by event organizers – and planning for next year has already begun.
The week was capped off with the community and local businesses coming out to support the 4-H kids and their projects on Friday, Aug. 5, during the Sale of Champions, and the ever-popular demolition derby on Saturday, Aug. 6, which drew the largest crowd of the week.
“It was hot all week,” Preble County Fairgrounds Manager James Mays said with a laugh. “Overall, I think we had a successful fair. Our numbers, I think were up over last year. Everybody just came in and supported us 100 percent.”
Mays said attendance was down during the day, but all the evening activities still drew nice crowds.
Mays said he received several compliments on the improvements to the grounds.
“We’re just hoping to keep moving forward, getting new vendors, getting new concessionaires,” Mays said.
Friday’s sale saw a few record sales.
“Sale day was great,” Mays said. “The community really came out and supported the junior fair kids. That’s what it’s all about.”
Mays said he is already looking forward to next year.
“I can’t wait until next year. We’re already planning. I already got a list started of improvements and keeping a tally of things people have been talking about,” he said.
