Victory Days Festival returns to Verona

VERONA — The third annual Victory Days Festival will be held at Verona Park Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, with food, games, music, and prizes.

The festival begins at 4 p.m. on Friday with a car show and cornhole games sponsored by the Verona Fire Department. Saturday begins with a parade at 10 a.m., and the day will feature lawnmower and go-kart racing, baseball games beginning at noon, a hot dog eating contest at 3 p.m., and a chili cook-off and baking contest beginning at 11:30 a.m. with registration costing $3.

This year’s festival does not require a fee for vendors who wish to set up booths, tables, or tents in the park. Anyone is welcome to find a space and set up, though if electricity is required for a particular vendor setup, a $75 fee will be imposed to run power to the booth.

A lawnmower derby and lawnmower racing begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, with registration between 10 and 11:45 a.m. Both are perennially popular attractions. The go-kart race is returning after an absence, though the hobby was once a major pasttime in Verona.

Live music will be provided Friday by Sounds of the Oldies, and Saturday by Ralph Bragg & Friends, As We Crash, and Margaret and the Magnets.
