EATON — The Eaton Police Division arrested James Hartley after responding to a call regarding multiple stabbings in the 400 block of East Israel Street in Eaton late on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Hartley entered the home wielding a kitchen knife and stabbed three victims, according to reports. It is currently unclear if he kicked down the front door or just opened it, as there are conflicting eye witness accounts. Police believe he did attempt to kick in the door, however.

He is currently being held in the Preble County Jail on three counts of felonious assault, aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, and aggravated menacing.

The three victims Hartley stabbed were Scott Chessman, Peggy Crank, and Corinna Crank. All three were taken to the Preble County Medical Center in Eaton with Corinna Crank being transported to Kettering Medical Center with more serious injuries.

All three victims are in stable condition.

No motive had been released at press time, but Hartley did know all three victims in the home, officials said.
