PREBLE COUNTY — In Preble County, there were three lady runners from two schools who qualified for the regional race.

Out of those three runners, one made it to state while the other two just missed the cut.

That one runner was Madison Wright, a junior from Twin Valley South. Wright made her second consecutive trip to the state race, placing 27th overall against the best-of-the-best.

She was consistently under the 20-minute mark all season long and was second overall in the Cross County Conference this year, running a time of 18:49 during the CCC championship race.

Wright also broke the school record, placed third in the regional and eighth in the district race.

It’s because of this high level of production that she is named The Register-Herald All-County runner of the year.

Joining her on the list is sister and fellow junior Megan Wright. She finished third in the Preble County Invitational and was also first team All-CCC, earning 10th place at the championship race and 18th overall at the district championship. She nearly qualified for the state competition as well, placing 22nd overall at regionals.

Third on the list is freshman Evan Byrd from National Trail. Byrd was 16th at the CCC championship race but hit her stride at the right time, earning 28th at the district race and 64th overall at regionals. She was also the second place finisher at the Preble County meet.

Next up is sophomore Katie Bassler from Eaton. She was the OHSAA second team All-District, finishing 28 overall at the district meet. She was also second team SWBL.

Joining Bassler is teammate Sasha Taxter, another sophomore and OHSAA All-District honorable mention. She was 45th overall at the district race, and earned second team All-SWBL and was the Preble County meet champion.

Lauren Muncy, a senior from Eaton, also earns a spot on our list. She was another OHSAA All-District honorable mention and placed 40th at the district meet. She was fourth at the Preble County race and an SWBL honorable mention runner as well.

Finishing the list for Eaton is freshman Brooke Caplinger, who was an SWBL Honorable Mention recipient.

Grace Stewart, a sophomore from Twin Valley South, also earns a spot on our list. She finished 24th at the CCC race and was fifth overall at the Preble County meet.

Finishing out the list are two more National Trail runners, the first being Hannah Wellman, a senior for the Blazers. She was sixth overall at the Preble County meet, 20th overall in the CCC, and 61st during the crowded district race.

Lily Carpenter, a freshman from Trail finished 25th in the CCC championship race, was seventh overall during the county meet, and was 67th at the district meet.
