LEWISBURG — Tri-County North’s head coach, Bill Derringer, still sopping wet from getting ice water dumped on his head, was all smiles as he held a plaque commemorating his 100th career win as a football coach.

Number 100 came after a 41-28 shootout victory over Troy Christian on Friday. His team gave him the classic water cooler shower in celebration.

“It was the last thing on my mind and then they tricked me and dumped ice on my head,” laughed Derringer after the game.

He has coached North to five straight playoff appearances, including their first undefeated season and first playoff win in school history last year.

“It’s been – a lot of guys were here tonight, one guy came up and said ‘I was here for your first one and now I’m here for your 100th – that’s what it’s all about. The guys coming back and I’ve just been blessed to coach a lot of really good young men over the years,” he said. “That’s more important than football. Just trying to make them good young men. Hopefully we’ve succeeded in that as well as getting a few wins along the way.”

Derringer holds a 79-43 record overall at North. He’s been a long-time coach in the area though, having stints at both National Trail and Brookville as well.
