GRATIS — Two area residents were indicted earlier this week and arrested on charges stemming from the death by drug overdose of a Preble County woman.

Dana F. Webb, 39, at large, and Courtney Alspaugh, 31, of Eaton, were indicted on Monday, Feb. 6, by a Preble County grand jury. The Preble County Sheriff’s Office arrested Webb and Alspaugh on charges related to an investigation into the overdose death of Sabrina Bourne, 35, in Gratis.

According to Sheriff Mike Simpson, on April 6, 2016, deputies responded at approximately 7:34 a.m. to a residence in the 300 block of West Franklin Street in Gratis. The caller had reported a female was unresponsive.

The victim, Bourne, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Simpson.

Deputies located evidence of drug usage at the scene, he noted in a press release on Wednesday. “That evidence was seized and submitted to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab in Dayton. Several gel caps containing cocaine and heroin laced with fentanyl were analyzed,” he said.

During the investigation, the two suspects were identified as being involved in providing the drugs to the Bourne. Detectives presented the case to the Preble County Grand Jury on Monday, and the grand jury returned an indictment against Webb and Alspaugh for crimes including involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony; aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony and corrupting another with drugs, a second degree felony.

Both Webb and Alspaugh are housed in the Preble County Jail awaiting their initial appearance in Preble County Common Pleas Court.
