LEWISBURG — The Tri-County North girls soccer team faced off against Cross County Conference rival Twin Valley South on Monday, Sept. 12, in a rescheduled game that was postponed earlier in the season due to weather.

North won this game 5-0 before a home crowd under near perfect weather.

Picking up from where they left off with a 2-0 lead, North poured on more pressure in the first half. After a trio of shots on goal by North, Megan Hemp made a header to the goal but the block rebounded right to North teammate Liv Baldasare for a goal at 14:50 remaining.

Five minutes later, Hailey Thies took advantage of a perfect kick pass who managed to sneak the ball past the onrushing South goalkeeper, and kicked into an open net for North’s fourth goal of the game.

At the 5:15 mark, Kaylan Keener assisted Rachel Dempsey for a fifth goal of the game. The score would remain 5-0 for the rest of the game despite numberous shot attempts by both teams.

“The girls are playing really well, they have a lot to play for this year,” said North coach Clint Daugherty after the game. “They have had a trying season so far, but they are stepping up. Our schedule is very tough, we had some strong teams early on in the season. Thies did a good job tonight with two goals in the game, but we were also able to spread the ball to various players in the game. We’ve been working hard on our speed and hustle. We wanted to play our best and we did.”

On Tuesday, Twin Valley South defeated Stivers in non-conference action, 5-1.

Sydney Vorhis had four goals on the evening, while Abby Creech had four assists, and Abby Robertson had one goal.

Twin Valley South was scheduled to play at Middletown Christian on Thursday, Sept. 15, in another non-conference game.

Tri-County North is now 3-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CCC. They were scheduled to play at Bethel on Thursday, Sept. 15, while Twin Valley South were schedule to play at Middletown Christian that same day.
