CARLISLE — The Preble Shawnee girls soccer team continues to roll over opponents this season. On Tuesday, Sept. 6, they added another victory, beating Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division foe Carlisle, 5-0.

The win was the Arrows’ third in the Buckeye Division; they are now 3-0.

Saylor Jewell had two goals and three assists on the game. Alyssa Davidson also had two goals. Riane Woodard scored one goal, while Nicole Sims chipped in with two assists.

Despite the win, Shawnee coach Kevin Schaeffer believes his team can play better.

“We did not execute well, especially in the first half,” Schaeffer said. “We had far too many unforced errors, errant passes, poor first touches. Another problem for a large percentage of the night was our lack of effort going to the balls. Thankfully, Carlisle didn’t over-exert themselves on that front either, which is a good thing because, if they did, it might have been a much more highly contested first half.”

Schaeffer said the key to success is communication.

“When we are communicating and making the game simpler for our teammates, we are much more successful as a team,” he Schaeffer. “A few of the goals were wonderful little combinations that were direct and executed in small spaces. When we do the little things, we become a very dangerous team.

“Bottom line, I’m really glad we are 5-0 and now 3-0 in the league, but an overall performance like tonight will not be enough to win us league or push us deep into the state tournament,” Schaeffer said. “We need to get better every day, every game, regardless of our opponent.”

The Lady Arrows were slated to play on Thursday Sept. 8, against Dixie, who lost last Tuesday to Twin Valley South. They have a key showdown looking at Waynesville next Tuesday, Sept. 13. As of press time, both teams were unbeaten in SWBL play.
