ENGLEWOOD — The Eaton Little League 12U All-Star softball team earned runner-up honors during the President’s Cup tournament, falling to Englewood on Friday and Saturday, July 10-11.

The girls had already beaten Englewood 9-6 before meeting them once again in the championship round.

The Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaker on Friday, falling 12-10 in extra innings.

They had Englewood down to their last out in the top of the sixth with a three-run advantage, but they managed a two-out rally to knot the game up at 9-9.

“Overall I’m very pleased with the efforts each girl put in,” said 12U All-Star coach Todd Barton. “Make no mistake, Eaton softball is thriving right now from top to bottom.”

The loss forced another game against Englewood with the winner of the matchup taking it all. Unfortunately for the Eaton girls’, it was their fourth game in three days and they were gassed. They lost the game 17-3.

“Fatigue was a huge factor in the third game,” said Barton.

Some standouts for the games were Brianna Ward, who was 7-10 at the plate with seven runs scored six stolen bases; Braily Ward was 5-9 batting and scored one run; and Erika Wilkinson, who was 5-11 and scored two runs. Wilkinson also pitched two games and totaled 16 strikeouts.
