NEW PARIS — The National Trail Blazers held girls’ basketball camp June 6-10. The camp offered basic fundamentals in ball handling, rebounding, boxing out and other skills essential to the game.

Girls from grades 3rd to 12th participated in the five-day camp, each session lasting three hours. The camp used both school gymnasiums, separating grades 3-7 in one, and 8-12 in the other.

Coach Troy Ferguson ran the program for the Blazers.

“It’s been fun,” he said. “The kids are working hard, we have about thirty kids from the younger grades and about twenty in the high school age group. They are having fun and we are trying to keep them involved, that’s the most important part. We want to continue to build the program through the younger kids. This is for fun and no so much for scouting.”

Ferguson’s girls’ basketball team went 6-16 last season and looks to improve for the upcoming school year. Nine varsity players are expected to return for the 2016-17 season.
