Eaton’s Seth Gard ran away from the field in winning the 3,200-meter run at the Southwestern Buckeye League meet on Saturday, May 14. Gard helped the Eagles to a fourth place finish as a team.

WEST MILTON — Eaton’s boys track team placed fourth at the Southwestern Buckeye League meet on Saturday, May 14, behind solid showings from several athletes.

“Several of our athletes had outstanding performances at the 2016 SWBL Championships. The 2016 team competition was very tough for both the men and women’s teams,” Eaton coach Randy McKinney said. “The men’s team ended the first night of the meet on Thursday in first place after six events scored then flipped back and forth between first through fourth as we progressed through the meet on Saturday, ending in a very respectable fourth place finish. To win SWBL track and field titles you have to have strong depth in all events, like we did last season.”

McKinney said Drew Campbell had an outstanding meet winning the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches. Seth Gard had a great meet winning the 3,200 meter run and placing third in the 1,600 meter run.

He noted, Seth Wright had a “great weekend” placing third in the 110 meter hurdles, fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and second overall in the pole vault, clearing 13-6. Chase Smith had a solid outing improving his best discus throw by six feet placing third with a throw of 136-6”.

Madi Bowman placed second in the discus in 117-11 while also placing fourth in the shot put, throwing 34-8.

“We enter into the upcoming District Championships Thursday and Saturday this week with several athletes that the coaching staff believe have the ability to place well and possible even advance onto the Regional Championships next week,” McKinney said.

For Preble Shawnee, Elise Walker was the lone Arrow champion, winning the high jump by clearing 5-0.

Eaton will compete at the Division II district meet at Graham High School on Thursday, May 19, and Saturday, May 21.

Preble Shawnee’s girls will compete in the Division III meet at Welcome Stadium on Tuesday, May 17 and Saturday, May, 21, while the boys will begin the postseason in the Division II meet at Welcome Stadium on Thursday and Saturday.

The top four finishers in each event at the districts will advance to the regionals next week.
