WEST ALEXANDRIA — Tri-County North jumped out to an early lead on Twin Valley South and captured an 11-2 victory on Tuesday, May 3, in a Cross County Conference softball game.

The game was decided quickly as North scored early and often with seven runs in the first two innings.

North scored four times in the first inning on an RBI triple by Megan Hemp, an RBI double by Morgan Helman, and a two-run home run by Hailey Stupp. In the second, Stupp singled to drive in two more runs and Taylor Green followed with and an RBI double to help North build a 7-1 lead.

After posting two runs in the fifth, North again scored two in the seventh. In the fifth, North scored on a walk by Cassi Stinson, bringing home Gracie Douglas and Kaitlin Heindl also scored on a walk. In the seventh, Heindl and Riley Cruse each scored, making the score 11-2.

Hemp racked up three RBIs on four hits for the North, while Helman and Stupp each added a pair of hits. Stupp also drove in four runs.

For South, they had four players each have a pair of hits but could manage just two runs. Madison Johnson, Shelby Denlinger, Sarah Bingham and Abby Bingham all collected two hits.

Johnson singled in the first and scored on a double by Denlinger to make it 4-1 in favor of North. In the third, Sarah Bingham singled and later scored on an RBI single by Lacy Emrick.

On Monday, North (9-9) suffered a 2-1 setback at Oakwood, which had won only three games at the time.

In the circle, Hemp allowed three hits, but North’s offense provided little run support.

The Jills scored twice in the first inning and made those runs stand.

Gracie Douglas went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for North. She singled in the second and fourth innings.

North, which managed five hits on the night, scored its lone run in the sixth.

North was scheduled to host Eaton on Friday, but that game was canceled due to the Eagles needing to make up a league game. North will visit Tri-Village on Saturday for a doubleheader.

South was scheduled to play Northridge on Thursday and host Dixie for a doubleheader on Saturday to close out the regular season.
