Arrows fall to Monroe, 15-4

CAMDEN — After playing six games the previous week, Preble Shawnee’s baseball team had all but one game canceled this week due to weather.

The Arrows were scheduled to host Lemon-Monroe for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30, but the two teams were able to only get in one contest due to the wet weather conditions and the visitors left with the win.

Shawnee coach Joe Leach said the week off hurt his pitchers, who struggled to find the strike zone most of the game, walking 11 batters. When Shawnee’s pitchers were around the plate, the Hornets took advantage, pounding out 14 hits. That combination left the Arrows with a a 15-4 setback.

“I feel the week off from playing did not help our pitchers out at all — and the ball was wet most of the game,” Leach said. “We just couldn’t get the ball to go where we wanted to and Monroe’s good hitters made us pay.”

For the Arrows’ offense, Joby Williams had two hits and Luke Lovely, Chase Thompson, Eryk Smith, and Cody Chesnut each added hits.

Preble Shawnee was scheduled to host Tri-Village Tuesday for Senior night and then host Dixie on Wednesday for its last league game of the season.
