North drops 2, picks up key win

LEWISBURG —After suffering a pair of one-run losses earleir in the week, Tri-County North’s baseball closed out the week with a key conference win.

North lost 5-4 to Minster on Monday and 1-0 to Covington before beating Miami East 4-0 on Friday.

A solid pitching performance from Tanner Booth led the Panthers over Miami East on Friday.

Booth kept Miami East off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the mound. He pitched a shutout, just three hits and striking out six.

It was a good day at the plate for Garrett Woodyard, who went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. He singled in the second and fourth innings.

On Tuesday, Chandler Sproles allowed just one run North couldn’t get the offense going in a 1-0 defeat to Covington.

Sproles gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked five and struck out seven during his six innings of work.

Covington managed to score one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single.

North opened the week with a tight game that was decided in the seventh inning as they fell to Minster.

Minster jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

After posting two runs in the sixth, North again scored two in the seventh. In the sixth, the the Panthers scored on an RBI single by Bailey Lairson, bringing home Jordan Overcash.
