Acton leads Blazers past Union City

NEW PARIS — After dropping back-to-back games, National Trail’s softball team rebounded with a win over visiting Union City (Ind.).

The Blazers scored eight runs in the first two innings to cruise to a 12-2, five-inning win, on Wednesday, April 6.

Behind the pitching of Payten Laird and Elizabeth Glander, the Blazers improved to 4-3 overall.

The duo allowed just five hits and struck out seven on the night.

Laird pitched two innings, allowing two hits, a walk and struck out two. Glander pitched three innings allowing three hits, and striking out five.

Offensively, Trail racked up 13 hits led by Alexus Acton, who went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, and drove in four runs. Kylee Aldridge went 2-for-3 with a double and Laird went 2-for-2.

Hannah Dixon added a double and drove in a pair of runs. Ariel Lee, Savanna Abner, Kaitlyn Morgan and Bobbi Grimes all added a hit.

“It was a great day all the way around,” Trail coach Krista Alldred said.

On Monday, Trail lost a high-scoring affair to visiting Hagerstown, 13-9.

Kayleigh Minner went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs, while Aleah Hunt went 2-for-4 with a triple.

Acton, Lee, Grimes, Gracie Jones, and Laird all added two hits.

The Blazers’ games against Tri-Village and Carlisle were rained out.

Trail was scheduled to play at Centerville (Indiana) on Monday, April 11, but that game was rained out. The Blazers were scheduled to visit Ansonia for a CCC contest on Tuesday. They are to host Bethel on Thursday and travel to Covington on Friday, before closing out the week with a double-header at home against Randolph Southern (Indiana) on Saturday.
