Shawnee 1-1 after first week of season

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s boys’ tennis team was able to get in two of its four scheduled matches last week before Mother Nature unleashed unplayable conditions on the Arrows.

Shawnee opened the week with a 3-2 loss at Dayton Christian on Monday, April 4, before topping host Franklin 3-2 on Tuesday to even its season record at 1-1.

Against Franklin, Shawnee won both doubles matches and at first singles to claim the win. At first singles, Shawnee’s Luke Feck defeated Dalton Campbell 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, Steven Carter and Chucky Short (PS) beat Evan Harris and Dusty Williams (F) 6-2, 6-0.

In second doubles, Cole Michael and Malorie Plaugher (PS) defeated Jaiden Perez andAustin Woods (F) 7-6(5), 6-1.

Franklin won the other two singles matches with Joe Balon (F) beating Cailin Foriest (PS) 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and Nathaniel Rudd (F) winning over Alec Hamblin (PS) 6-4, 6-1 at third singles.

Against DC, Feck opened the season with win at first singles defeating Paul Hodge 6-4, 6-1.

The Arrows other win was at second doubles with2 Chucky Short and Cole Michael (PS) scoring a win over Hunter Ganzsarto and Alex Sims 6-3, 7-6(2).

At second singles, Charley Fortener (DC) defeated Alec Hamblin (PS) 6-1, 6-1, while at third singles Solomon West (DC) beat Hayden Brown (PS) 6-1, 6-1.

At second doubles, Micah Withers and Elaina Baker (DC) topped Steven Carter and Chris Allen (PS) 6-2, 6-1.

Shawnee’s matches with Talawanda and Middletown Madison were rained out.

This week, the Arrows were scheduled to open SWBL play at Milton-Union on Tuesday, April 12, before hosting Lebanon on Wednesday and Carlisle on Thursday.
