CAMDEN — Clayton Morgan, a soon-to-be three-year varsity player for Preble Shawnee, signed on to continue his baseball career at Ohio Christian University during a ceremony in the school’s Media Center on Wednesday, March 16.

He will play second base for the Trailblazers and will give them a much needed lefty at the plate as well.

“He’s a really, really good hitter,” said Shawnee head coach Joe Leach. “He’s a hard working player and has been one of my team leaders for the last couple of years. They are getting a big, explosive offensive player.”

During his time in an Arrow uniform, where he earned second team all-SWBL honors last season, Morgan has gained the respect of his teammates by the way he acts on and off the field, added Leach.

“He is not one to sit and tell everybody what to do. He leads by example and by his hard work,” he said. “The team really respects him for that.”

Morgan is hoping to make an immediate impact on the team, who is in need of middle infielders. He also said that, as his arm continues to get stronger, he may also make the change to third base as well.

The decision to play at the next level wasn’t made on baseball alone, though. Morgan was also drawn to the aspect of attending a Christian college as well.

“Faith is a big part of my life and I figured – I’ll be minoring in Bible – that it would be great to take my baseball talent there where I can get the most important thing of my life covered while also playing the game I’ve loved since I was a little kid,” he said. “I’m excited to take it up further there and I appreciate all my coaches. All the glory to God. I’m really excited to go there.”

He also wants to contribute in another way, bringing in a “positive attitude and to be more Christ-like,” he said.

Morgan will be majoring in criminal justice at the university.
