BROOKVILLE — The Tri-County North girls basketball team ran into two-seeded Miami Valley, losing 76-24 in the sectional quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Brookville High School.

The Panthers got caught in a back-and-forth at the beginning of the contest, answering MV’s three-point bucket with a two-point score of their own from Preston Lipinski. North also answered the Rams’ next basket with a score from Riley Cruse, closing the deficit to 5-4.

But then MV ended the quarter on a 22-2 run, pushing a 21 point lead into the second.

“(Miami Valley) had speed and good defense that forced (us) to have seven turnovers in the first quarter with their pressure and never looked back,” said North’s head coach Jessica Cherry.

North posted seven more points in the second while holding MV to 15 and headed into halftime down 42-13.

The second half wasn’t kind to the Panthers either, however, as they were outscored 34-11 in that stretch.

Cruse led North with 10 points and three rebounds, Stinson followed with six points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Also chipping in also for the Panthers was Lipinski with four points, Baker with two points and Sara Harris with two points.

North only graduates one senior in Tiarra Alford, on a roster that holds four freshmen, two sophomores, and three juniors.
