EATON — The Eaton boys basketball team got off their five-game schneid with a last-second victory over Brookville on Friday, Jan. 29.

The Eagles only led for 2.6 seconds of the contest, but it was the only 2.6 seconds that mattered, as Trey Smith hit the game-winning shot to pull away with a 42-41 victory on the road.

Smith shot 3-10 from the field on the night, but drained the most important shot in the game, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, and one block.

It was a close contest throughout, with Eaton heading into the second quarter down 10-8 and into the break down 15-14.

Both teams posted 10 points in the third, heading into the final period battling 25-24.

Jason Sneed led all scorers with 12 points while Daniel Howard added eight points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Donnie Nicodemus chipped in six points and six boards on the night.

Earlier in the week, the Eagles also traveled to Oakwood, losing 69-50 on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Eaton hung tough for the first quarter, only down one point. But a 17-11 second pushed Oakwood’s lead to seven and they headed into the half up 22-29.

A huge third quarter, where the Lumberjacks scored 24 while holding Eaton to just 11, pushed the game out of reach of the Eagles.

Smith led the team with 17 points as Sneed added nine points. Howard added eight rebounds, four points, and two assists.

The Eagles hosted National Trail on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and will travel to Valley View on Tuesday, Feb. 9 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
