WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South dropped three games the past week, losing to Stivers, Arcanum, and Franklin Monroe.

The Panthers started out the week against Stivers on Dec. 14, losing 39-36 in a closely contested contest.

“We played very well against a strong team,” said head coach Jeff Case. “Our defense was intense and caused them to take difficult shots.”

While Stivers jumped out to an eight-point first half lead, South battled back, using a big push in the final quarter to make it close.

It was the fifth team the Panthers have held below the 40-point mark.

Mylan Crews lead the team in scoring with 11 points followed by Morgan Newhart with eight and Haily Keener with seven points.

They then turned to face CCC opponent Arcanum on Dec. 17, losing 63-25.

“This was a tough road game for us. We knew that Arcanum was going to be a tough team in the conference this year,” said Case.

South was only down seven points midway through the second quarter before being outscored 17-6 to close out the half.

“They have great shooters. We just couldn’t match up with them,” said Case.

Abby Creech led the team with eight points while Crews added seven.

Their final game came on Saturday when they took on Franklin Monroe, losing that contest 48-31.

“FM has already played a tough schedule to start the season. They shot the ball well and we were flat. We got into a deep hole and could not get out of it,” said Case. “This was one we let slip away.”

They were plagued by turnovers and a lack of production on the glass.

Creech led the team once again with eight points while Kelsie Shafer chipped in seven.

The Panthers fell to 3-8 on the season and were scheduled to host Bradford on Monday, Dec. 21.
