Eaton wins two of three

EATON — The ball may finally be rolling for the Eaton boys basketball team. After starting the season with six straight losses, the Eagles have won two of their last three match-ups.

They earned their first victory on the season with a 58-54 overtime win over Monroe on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Eaton found itself in a back-and-forth battle with their SWBL rival for much of the game. It nearly looked out of reach with about 50 seconds remaining though, as they were down six points. But a pair of three-pointers from senior Trey Smith, including one with four seconds remaining, pushed the game into overtime.

From there on, it was all Eagle basketball as they outlasted Monroe in the extra frame.

Offensively, they were led by Smith who had 24 points and seven rebounds. Trevor Pittman added 12 points and six boards while Lew Bowser chipped in eight points on the night.

Three nights later, Eaton was in a triple overtime thriller with Oakwood. The Lumberjacks hit a jumper as time expired to push past the Eagles in the final period, winning 85-84.

In the game, they were led by Pittman, who had 33 points and seven rebounds. Smith added 26 points while Daniel Howard had 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Eagles closed out the week with a 56-47 victory against Ross on Saturday, Dec. 19.

It was an uphill battle for Eaton, however, as the team went down 22-12 after one quarter of play. They even went into the half down 12 points, but held Ross to 11 total points in the second half to earn the road win.

Pittman led Eaton with 25 points and six rebounds with Smith chipping in nine points. Howard added six points and seven rebounds on the evening.

The Eagles have the week off but will take on Greenon on Monday, Dec. 28 as part of the Tri-Village Tournament. The game has a scheduled tip-off time of 6 p.m.
