North girls lose to Northeastern

LEWISBURG — Tri-County North girls basketball continues to try and find its groove, falling to Northeastern 45-25 on Monday, Nov. 30.

The Panthers competed well for the first half, heading into halftime down four after scoring eight points in the second quarter. They also only turned the ball over three times in the half.

After intermission though, North was unable to take the lid off the rim, getting outscored 29-13 while also shooting 3-10 from the free throw line.

The bad night at the line was a dagger to the Panthers, who have produced well from the stripe all season long. In the second half, they also did not take care of the ball, producing 13 turnovers.

“We couldn’t handle the ball well in the second half. We felt that we struggled in the third quarter and it set the tone for the rest of the game. We are a guard heavy team and normally handle the ball much better but early mistakes got (us) down early in the half,” said North head coach Jessica Cherry. “We did do good things in the first half, however we have to finish the game and learn we don’t stop anytime during the game and give up.”

Cassi Stinson led the team with eight points while Tiarra Alford scored seven. Riley Cruse added four points and Chelsey Strawser had three while Shyanna Baker and Sara Harris added two points and one point, respectively.

The loss drops North to 1-3 on the season. They were scheduled to take on Eaton on Monday, Dec. 7 before traveling to rival Twin Valley South on Thursday Dec. 10 for a 5:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off.

The Panthers also host both Arcanum on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. and Brookville on Monday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
