Stingrays open season, split meets

PREBLE COUNTY — The Preble County Stingrays started their season off right, winning their first meet of the year against Cardinal Hill.

They lost a tough home meet to Vandalia Castle Hill in the same week, however.

A highlight from the week is that the Stingray’s 11-12 girls’ relay consisting of Maddie Haynes Madelynn Baker Rebekah Honaker and Bella Streets are one second away from breaking a 20 year old record for the girls’ freestyle relay.

Here are the first place winners from the Cardinal Hill meet:

In the eight and under age group, Oliva Cochran won the girls’ 25-meter breaststroke while Emily Hayes won the 25-meter freestyle. For the boys in that age group, Austin Peace won the 25 breast, 25-meter butterfly, and 25-meter backstroke races.

In the nine and ten age category, Rachel Honaker took first in the 50-meter freestyle and 25-meter butterfly while Zoee Scroggins won the 25-meter freestyle for the girls.

Moving into the 11 and 12 age group, Madelynn Baker placed first in the 50 free and 100-meter individual medley while Elley Gose placed first in the 25 back. For the boys, Clayton Kiracofe won the 50 free and 25 fly while Ryan Ballou was first in the 25 back and Hayden Bratton won the 25 breast.

For the 13 and 14 age group, Tatum Durbin won two events for the girls, getting first in the 50 fly and the 100 IM while teammate Abby Liddy won the 100-meter free and the 50 breast. Shelby Slade took first in the 50 back as well. On the boys’ side, Tyler Gregory won the 50 breast, 50 back, and 100 IM as Aaron School was first in the 50 fly.

In the 15 and over age group, Mason McCargish won the 50 free, 50 fly, and 100 IM while Drew Pool won the 100 free and 50 breast. Ryan Bassler also took first in the 50 back for the boys.

The first place winners for the Castle Hill meet are as follows:

For the eight and under group, Cochran won the 25 back while Hayes was first in the 25 free for the girls. Peace placed first in the 25 back and 25 free.

In the nine and 10 age group, Joslynn Beneke was firs in the 25 breast for the girls while teammate Josey Meeks won the 25 free and 50 free.

In the 11 and 12 age group, Baker was first in the 25 free and 25 fly while Rebekah Honaker was first in the 25 breast.

In the 13 and 14 age group, Gregory won three events again, placing first in the 100 free, 50 back, and 50 breast for the boys while Scholl also took first in three events, winning the 50 free, 50 fly, and 100 IM. On the girls’ end, Liddy took first in the 50 breast.

In the 15 and over age group, Trey Gregory took first in the 50 back while McCargish won the 100 free and 100 IM. Pool placed first in the 50 fly while Alexandra Taxter was first in the 50 fly for the girls’ team.

The Stingrays hosted Germantown on Tuesday, June 16 and are scheduled to travel to West Carollton on Thursday, June 18.
