Volleyball, soccer tourneys to begin

PREBLE COUNTY – The postseason gets under way this weekend or early next week for Preble County’s volleyball and boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.

The teams learned who their tournament opponents would be at various selection meetings Sunday, Oct. 11.

Eaton’s volleyball team heads the list of seeded teams, as the Eagles (17-2) earned the No. 3 seed in the Division II sectional to be played at Fenwick High School. Eaton will begin tournament play on Saturday, Oct. 17, at noon, against No. 12 seed Wilmington (2-11).

A win would set up a showdown with either No. 4 seed Kettering Archbishop Alter (10-10) or No. 5 seed Hamilton Ross (15-5) on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m.

The host Falcons (16-4) earned the No. 1 seed, while Bellbrook (17-3) was tabbed as the No. 2 seed.

The sectional final is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.

In Division III, at Brookville, Preble Shawnee (8-11) earned the No. 10 seed and a first round bye in the Brookville 1 sectional. The Arrows will meet the winner of the No. 6 seed Milton-Union (12-7) and No. 11 Springfield Northeastern (8-10) Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. The sectional final is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.

In the Brookville 3 sectional, National Trail (7-12) is the No. 14 seed and will meet No. 5 Arcanum (15-5) Saturday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. The sectional final is set for Oct. 24, at 4:40 p.m.

Anna (16-4) earned the sectionals top seed, followed by Miami East (15-4), West Liberty-Salem (16-4) and Springfield Northwestern (14-6).

In Division IV, No. 15 Twin Valley South (11-8) will open at Tippecanoe High School against No. 5 Franklin-Monroe (16-3) Monday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. If TVS wins, the Panthers would play No. 8 Riverside (13-7) Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The sectional final is scheduled for Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.

Tri-County North (1-18) was the No. 25 seed and will open with top-seeded Jackson Center (20-2), t Troy High School, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. An upset win would pit the Panthers against No. 24 Bradford (3-17) Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. The sectional final is Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.

In girls Division III soccer, Preble Shawnee (9-4-1) was the No. 4 seed and received a first round bye. The Arrows and will open play, at home, on Thursday, Oct. 22, against either No. 9 Franklin-Monroe (5-7-1) or No. 16 Yellow Springs (1-13). The sectional final is set for Monday, Oct. 26 at Eaton.

Twin Valley South (9-3-2) earned the No. 7 seed and will host Dixie on Oct. 19. A win will advance the Panthers to the second round against top-seeded Hamilton Badin (8-3-2) on Oct. 22.

No. 8 Tri-County North (9-4-1) will host either Dayton Christian or Xenia Christian on Oct. 22. The sectional final is scheduled for Oct. 26 at Bellbrook High School at 7 p.m.

National Trail (0-13-1) will play Cincinnati Christian Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.

In Division II, No. 10 Eaton (3-11) will visit No. 6 Chaminade Julienne (4-8-2) Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The second round is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., versus top-seeded Alter.

In boys soccer, No. 9 Eaton will host No. 10 Franklin (1-10-3), Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The second round is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., against top-seeded Alter.

In Division III, No. 19 Twin Valley South (5-7-1) will play No. 4 Yellow Springs Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The winner will meet No. 24 Preble Shawnee (2-10-2) Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

No. 26 National Trail (1-13) will visit Troy Christian (9-5) Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., and No. 25 Tri-County North (2-10-1) will play either No. 3 Franklin-Monroe (9-4) or No. 27 Southeastern Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
