WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South’s volleyball team split a pair of Cross County Conference games last week, upending National Trail before falling to league-leading Miami East.

They started out their week hosting the Blazers on Tuesday, Sept. 22, winning in four sets (22-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-14.)

“After we talked about the miscues of set one and the girls decided to step up and play, we were fine tonight,” said TVS head coach Leslie Roberts.

Emma Fergus led the way for the Panthers, charting 15 kills and four digs while Mylan Crew added 33 assists on the night. Abby Beneke had 23 digs and 13 kills, Delaney Adams went 12 of 13 on serve receive along with 21 digs and seven kills. Madison Wright also contributed, earning 22 points with five aces and 21 digs.

Miami East also came to town on Thursday, Sept. 24. South showed signs that it could hang with the CCC volleyball powerhouse, but eventually fell in three sets, 12-25, 14-25, and 7-25.

“I’m proud of our kids for the effort, heart and perseverance they displayed throughout the match,” said Roberts. “There is no giving up tonight, in fact I think we fought as hard as we could to be competitive.”

The Panthers closed out the week with a tri-meet at Northeastern, where they faced both Northeastern and Preble Shawnee on Saturday, Sept. 26.

South started out against Northeastern, losing in two sets 19-25, 22-25.

“Northeastern had a powerful front line with a quick attack and we struggled to sustain our defensive focus,” said Roberts. “We have some things to focus our attention on moving forward.

TVS then took Shawnee three sets, losing 18-25, 25-20, 21-25.

The Panthers were scheduled to travel to Covington on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and will travel to Bethel on Thursday, Oct. 1 for a 5:30 p.m. match. They will also head to Dixie on Saturday, Oct. 3 for a tri-meet against Dixie and Reading, starting at 10 a.m.
