WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South volleyball always brings high expectations into every season. That’s just the precedent the program has set.

“This year we are trying to raise the level of play by having everyone focus on putting in their best effort one play at a time. We want them to compete in practice to make each other better,” said head coach Leslie Roberts.

The Lady Panthers are fresh off a year where they went 16-8 and made it to the sectional finals against Jackson Center. They also went 9-3 in the Cross County Conference.

The team loses Caityln Meyers, a first team All-CCC player, and Taylor Kirkpatrick, who was second team All-CCC. They also lost Hanna Cline and Hailey Keener.

But the team returns five players with varsity experience, including junior Madison Wright, another second team All-CCC player, and Abby Beneke, an All-CCC honorable mention. Delaney Adams, Mylan Crews, and Emma Fergus are also returners.

They also bring in newcomers Audrey Chesney, Sidney Mowell, and Samantha Janecek

The team is hoping to hold a high and competitive standard that people have come to expect out of the program.

“Our goals are to be competitive in every match but we must also be realistic.

League schools are putting in time year round, our focus seems more season-centered and we will do our best within that time frame to be competitive,” said Roberts. “The team would like to be top half of league and make it back to the sectional finals.”

South was scheduled to open their season on Monday, Aug. 23 against Stivers before hosting Madison on Tuesday, Aug. 24. They will travel to Carlisle for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday, Aug. 29.
