Neal wins title at LCC, Arrows 6th

LIMA — Preble Shawnee’s Camron Neal was the lone Preble County champion at the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28.

Neal’s win helped the Arrows to a sixth place finish with 105 points in the 39-team tournament. Mechanicsburg was the team champion with 243 points. Rounding out the top five were Swanton (177.5), Miami East (172.5), Ottawa-Glandorf (122.5) and Allen East (105.5). Shawnee tied with Ayersville for sixth.

Tri-County North scored 47.5 point and finished 16th.

Neal defeated Kobe Cunningham of LCC, 8-1, in the championship match at 113 pounds to cap off a perfect weekend.

Shawnee’s Alex Steele placed fourth at 285 pounds. Steele reached the semifinal before losing by pin.

The Arrows had three other wrestler fall one match short of placing, Jordan Stubbs at 182, Tanner Crabtree at 195 and Tyler Stevenson at 220.

For North, Andrew Hutchinson placed fifth at 106 pounds and Tyler Gray was sixth at 182.

Shawnee is scheduled to compete in the regional semifinal of the State Duals on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Bethel-Tate. Tri-County North is scheduled to travel to Twin Valley South the same night.
