PREBLE COUNTY — Eaton and Preble Shawnee’s wrestling teams each advanced to the regional semifinals of the State Duals with wins last week.
Eaton, the No. 2 seed, defeated Cincinnati Reading 43-30 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Jan. 25, of the Division II, Region 15-B bracket while the Arrows, the No. 3 seed in the Division III, Region 23-B bracket, took down Brookville (54-25) and upset No. 2 seeded Milton-Union (41-30) to advance.
Both schools hosted their respective events.
National Trail, a No. 4 seed in the Division III, Region 23-B bracket had its team tournament come to and an end with a loss to Blanchester, 48-24, at Troy Christian.
For Eaton, the Eagles received a forfeit over Cincinnati Indian Hill before facing off with Reading.
Against Reading, Eaton had to forfeit matches at 106 and 120 pounds and found itself down 12-3 after three matches.
Eaton got wins from Wade Monebrake (113), Cameron Schmidt (132), Coleman Manning (138), Logan Chapin (145), Isaac Ilo (160), Seth Hodapp (170), Spencer Reynolds (182), Colton Gray (220) and Seth Bowman (285).
For Preble Shawnee, the Arrows got wins from Rylan Roberts (106), Kage Worley (120), Camron Neal (126), Travis Tatum (132), Cayne Grimme (138), Logan Duncan (145), Drew Combs (152), Tyler Stevenson (220) and Alex Steele (285) to best Brookville.
Against Milton, Shawnee won the first five matches to take a 25-0 lead. Milton closed to within 28-24 with four matches left, but the Arrows closed strong for the win.
Shawnee got wins from Roberts, Jayden Dobbins, Neal, Worley, Tatum, Combs, Jordan Stubbs, Crabtree and Steele.
For Trail, the Blazers had to forfeit nine matches, but won four of the five matches they competed in.
Trail got wins from Josh Cook (152), Jesse Biser (160), Craig Montgomery (170) and Ben Sullivan (220).
Eaton will wrestle Ross on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Western Brown. Shawnee will compete at Bethel-Tate, also on Wednesday.
