NEW PARIS — National Trail’s boys’ basketball team couldn’t overcome its struggles on the offensive end of the court as it fell to Miami East 48-36 in a Cross County Conference game, Friday, Jan. 7.

The loss was Trail’s first in conference play.

Miami East jumped out to an 8-1 lead before Dalton Mason connected on the Blazers’ first basket with 1:00 left in the first quarter.

Both teams continued to find it difficult to score the rest of the first half, as Miami East took a 17-12 lead into intermission. Trail managed to trim the lead to four multiple times in the second half but were never able to get closer.

The Blazers were led by Peyton Harrison with 11 and Weston Haws with seven. Dalton Mason had 10 rebounds and Kaleb Deardorff pulled down nine rebounds. Logan West had 18 points for the Vikings.

Trail shot only 12-of-47 (26 percent) for the game.

“It was a combination of some sub-par offensive execution limiting our number of good looks, and just not being able to capitalize on some of the good looks we did have,” Trail coach Mike Harrison said. “I felt we played well defensively, holding Miami East to 17 points in the fist half should be good, but when we were only able to muster 12 of our own we still found ourselves in a hole.”

National Trail is now 6-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. Miami East is now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.

The Blazers were scheduled to travel to Covington on Tuesday, Jan. 10, and will host a pair of games this weekend. They will host Bethel on Friday and Seton Catholic on Saturday.
