Reed changes plea to ‘guilty’ on sexual battery charge

EATON — A youth minister who served at a Camden church has changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty” of sexual battery.Kevin Reed, 35, of Eaton, was indicted in the Preble County Common Pleas Court in late May, on one count of sexual battery of a minor for actions which took place in part at the Higher Heights Church of God, according to a Camden police report.The indictment claimed Reed, on or between July 1, 2013 and Aug. 30, 2013, engaged in “sexual conduct with” a 17-year-old member of the church congregation.


$10k of marijuana seized in Camden

A traffic stop made due to a driver suspected of driving under the influence led authorities to seize $10,000 of marijuana in Camden, Friday, July 11.Around 2 a.m. Friday, Camden Police Sergeant Mathew Spurlock spotted a vehicle traveling south bound on U.S. 127 in Camden at 40 miles per hour, 15 mph slower than the set speed limit. Summer Crisis help available

The Summer Crisis Program, which provides electric bill payment assistance to eligible families, began Tuesday, July 1 and will continue through Sunday, Aug. 31, or until funds are depleted. Community Action Partnership will provide assistance to households with incomes up to 175 percent of the 2014 Federal Poverty Guidelines. Yearly household income for a family of four may not exceed $41,737.50. The maximum benefit amount has increased this year from $175 to $350.
