Home is where the heart is…

PREBLE COUNTY — With Christmas upon us, many of us take time to reflect on those loved ones who are near, those who are far away, and quite often, those we have lost.

It is a season of hoping for better things, of wishes for peace, of giving and sharing to help make someone else’s days a little brighter.

It was all those things which were behind the R-H’s plan for the Home for the Holidays promotion which we kicked off back in November. We, along with a generous group of sponsors, had a wish to help fly someone’s loved one back to Preble County to enjoy much needed time with their family members.

We sought letters from readers, asking for nominations so a selection committee could choose a winning loved one.

We received only one entry — and it was from a very loving mother, seeking to bring home a military family: her very deserving daughter, her daughter’s husband and their child.

But, I know there are more loved ones who will be missing the holidays at home this season. I know there are daughters, sons, fathers, mothers, grandchildren — even good friends — who are miles away, wishing they could visit the folks back here in Preble County.

With that in mind, the R-H is going to extend the Home for the Holidays promotion into a “Home is Where the Heart Is” contest, and seek additional letters from all of you readers who are missing someone this holiday! Write us a letter detailing whom you want to fly home and why they deserve the trip. We will be publishing all the nomination letters, and readers will vote on which individual they believe is deserving of the flight home. Deadline for letters will be Friday, Jan. 15.

The winner will receive air fare on or before Sunday, Feb. 14.

Send letters to Gen. Manager Leslie Collins, 532 N. Barron St., Eaton, OH 45320, or email to [email protected].

Merry Christmas to everyone, everywhere in Preble County this week. And if you’re missing someone at your annual family Christmas gathering, send us a letter and tell us why you want to bring them home for a visit.
