Preble Shawnee owned the high jump at the Dayton Division II District meet held at Welcome Stadium last week.


The Arrows swept the boys’ and girls’ competition as a senior and freshman each claimed district titles. The event was held on Thursday, May 22 and Saturday, May 24.


Senior Josh Willoughby, who holds the Arrows school record at 6 feet, 7 inches, cleared 6-2 to remain undefeated in the event this year. Willouhgby, who won his title Saturday, has been one of the top high jumpers in the area his entire high school career.


He advances to the Dayton Division II regional to be held at Welcome Stadium this week.


While Willoughby is trying to end his high school career on a high note, freshman Elise Walker is just getting started.


Walker is also undefeated on the season in the event. She cleared 5-2 on Thursday for her win.


Freshman Kassy Wilson placed 6th in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet, 1/4 inch.


As a team, the Arrow girls totaled 13 points to finish 11th overall. The boys’ lone 10 points came from Willoughby.


The regional meet is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 and Saturday, May 30.


Walker is scheduled to jump on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m. Willoughby will compete Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The top four at regional will advance to the state meet the following weekend.
