National Trail senior Kate Deaton claimed one district championship and placed second in another event at the Dayton Division III District meet held Tuesday, May 20 and Saturday, May 24, at Welcome Stadium, to advance to the Division III regional this week.
She will be joined at the regionals by the girls’ 4x400-meter relay team of Andrea Hunt, Hannah Wellman, Natalie Hunt and Rachel Sabila.
Andrea Hunt also advanced in an individual event as well.
The Blazer boys will also be represented at the regional with a pair of individual qualifiers.
Deaton, who is headed to Ohio State, captured first place in the discus with toss of 128 feet, 3 inches. The lefty placed second in the shot put with throw of 34-8 3/4.
Andrea Hunt was a district runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 16-8 3/4. She just missed out on advance in three events as she placed 5th in the 400-meters with a time of 61.28 seconds.
The relay team placed 3rd with a time of 4:22.65.
Hannah Wellman placed 8th in the 400 with a time of 63.51.
For the boys, Austin Adams placed 4th in the 100-meters with a time 11.96.
Cole Dudley also qualified to the regional, with a 3rd place finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:42.76.
The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Josh Cook, Sam Eyler, Danny Wellman and Dudley was 8th in 3:57.76.
National Trail’s girls scored 39 points to place 10th in the 18-team field.
Trail’s boys tallied 12 points to finish 14th.
The Division III regional will be held at Troy on Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30.
Finals of the boys’ pole vault, girls high jump, boys long jump, girls shot put and boys discus will be held on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m. Semifinals in the running events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
