Twin Valley South’s boys basketball team looked poised to run its winning streak to five games, as it built a double-digit second half lead last Friday, Jan. 24, against Arcanum.
But the homestanding Panthers failed to hold that lead in suffering its first defeat since losing to Bishop Fenwick on Jan. 4.
South was outscored 33-17 in the second half by the Trojans, falling 55-51, in a Cross County Conference contest.
The Panthers (9-7, 6-3 CCC) jumped out to a 21-13 lead after the opening quarter and lead 32-22 at the break.
South still held a slim lead, 38-35, heading into the final quarter.
South was led by Wes Cole’s 22 points. Michael Green and Seth Baker each added 12 points.
The Panthers were scheduled to host Franklin-Monroe on Saturday but the game was postponed due to poor weather conditions. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Up next for South is a home contest against Dayton Christian on Friday, Jan. 31. The Panthers will then travel to Milton-Union Tuesday, Feb. 4 for its second straight non-league game.
