Right from the start it was evident Tri-County North had the upper hand against long-time rival Twin Valley South.
North, applying full court pressure, was relentless as they raced out to a 23-6 lead after the opening quarter and cruised to a 61-24 win Thursday, Dec. 5, at TVS.
Todd Hutchinson, in his first season at the helm of the North girls program, wasn’t sure what to expect from his team.
“You could tell that it was going to be a big game for the girls,” he said. “It was all business at practice and tension was high. Even during pregame everyone was real quiet and focused. We could come out and play tight and nervous or to loose. When it comes to a cross county rival you just never know what could happen.”
Hutchinson didn’t have much to worry about as his team took care of business early.
Senior Jackie Marshall scored a game-high 20 points and had six steals in just three quarters of action.
“We dominated from the tip and controlled the tempo,” Hutchinson said
Carly Whitaker led the early charge as she scored nine points and had four steals to put her team in control.
Then Megan Duffy took over scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds leading North to to a 37-12 halftime lead Duffy finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
North, who has a season-high nine players score, held a 51-15 led after three quarters.
North, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCC, was scheduled to host Dixie Monday, Dec, 9, but that game was postponed due to poor weather conditions. North is scheduled to host Arcanum on Thursday, before hosting Milton-Union on Monday, Dec. 16.
